intro

Unashamedly retro, but captivating second studio album from London-based rock and roll band, the Jim Jones Revue

Bringing the immediacy of a proper, old fashioned rock and roll live show to record is not an easy task. With their latest album, the Jim Jones Revue very nearly pull it off. 'Burning Your House Down' is an unashamedly retro riot, all speeding guitars, juddering bass, whooping vocals, and jumping piano over the top. Imagine Jerry Lee Lewis transplanted to 21st century London and you won't be far off. It certainly all moves along with a 50s-esque swagger. If it does fall down, it is in the lack of anything that really stands out above the distilled rock and roll. Jim Jones is a captivating frontman and at his Revue's live shows it is near impossible not to get caught up in the excitement. Once placed on record some of the driving force disappears however. 'Burning Your House Down' lacks the sort of songs that really get into your mind and lodge their catchy hooks there. 'Premeditated' comes close and title track 'Burning Your House Down' is also up there. No band out there at the moment encapsulate the pleasure of a proper rock and roll party like the Jim Jones Revue. 'Burning Your House Down' may not be a stone cold classic of an album, but it is easy to forget that when you're listening to it and just enjoy it.
