intro
Excellent new single from former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, which finds her moving unexpectedly in a new alternative direction
'Alexander' is the first single from ex Ash member Charlotte Hatherley's third album, 'New Worlds'. Like Ash in recent times, she has gone in a different direction to what is expected of her. 'Alexander' has two different grooves, each of which are repeated three times. It starts off sounding like a sweetie pie piece of 60s folk, something like, say, Mary Hopkin, and has you gently swaying along to it, Then around the one minute mark, it becomes more gritty, sounding something that might be heard on XFM radio and somewhere between Garbage and the Bangles. This will please any one whom likes alternative music and moves away from Charlotte's more usual pop style. Its B side is 'The Black 'n' Red remix. It is decent enough, shakes everything up and rearranges it and is sung now as a duet. A great single!
