intro
Stunning comeback single from the recently expanded Tender Trap, the latest project of Talulah Gosh and Heavenly's Amelia Fletcher
I remember when I saw Tender Trap playing at a Swedish indiepop festival called Mitt Bästa Liv ('My Best Life' in English) back in 2002. As a big fan of both Talulah Gosh and Heavenly, I was looking forward to see Amelia Fletcher and her band mates play live, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed afterwards. Sure, I wasn’t expecting them to play 'Beatnik Boy' or 'C is the Heavenly Option', but still… And when I listened to their debut album, 'Film Molecules', later, I got the same feeling. It just felt… a bit uninspiring. And to be honest, I haven’t really checked out their subsequent releases, but with their latest single, 'Fireworks', playing on my stereo, I’m starting to regret it. After having some time off during 2007 and 2008, Tender Trap “reformed” as a 5-piece earlier this year, with Elizabeth Darling (guitars) and Katrina Dixon (drums) joining the group's original trio of Amelia (vocals, melodica),Rob Pursey (guitar) and DJ Downfall (bass). And with them, the band has taken a new direction musically, as the first thing that rushes through my head when listening to the title track is “Shop Assistants”. According to the press release Katrina is playing stand-up drums, which might be one of the reasons for me to associate them with this fantastic Edinburgh band. This single is very good, and I’m really looking forward now to the album, which is coming soon, I hope. Until then, I’m going to check out their previous releases
