intro
Occasionally misjudged harmonic indie pop on foruth album from Canadian group Young and Sexy, which still though should be satisfying to fans of bands like Field Music, Belle & Sebastien and the Clientele
Young and Sexy have been refining their harmony pop for a decade now, and former lovers Lucy Brain and Paul Pittman blend their voices easily on the group’s fourth album ‘The Arc’. The jangling pop background on songs like ‘Peer Through the Lock’ will be familiar to fans, but there’s at least one thing missing from ‘The Arc’ – the artful characters studies like ‘Herculean Bellboy’ which graced albums like ‘Life Through One Speaker’. The lyrics on ‘The Arc’ have more elemental themes – there’s many mentions of flames, sparks, winds and air, thunder and lightning. There area few missteps, like the spoken interlude on ‘The Poisoned Cup’, counterbalanced like ‘Demon Dreaming, which beings with a slashing guitar intro before switching to some flute laden prog with appropriately mystical lyrics. ‘The Arc’ isn’t Young and Sexy’s best album, but it should be satisfying to fans of bands like Field Music, Belle & Sebastien and the Clientele.

Life Through One Speaker (2004) |
Gently meditative pop from stellar Vancouver band, which draws comparisions with Saturday Looks Good To Me, the Clientele, and Belle and Sebastian |
