intro
Lively new EP from California trio La Motta, which features Sean Friesen, the former frontman with the Asexuals
It’s been nearly 2 years since the Los Angeles band La Motta released their self-titled debut album. The album earned favourable reviews and got the group off to a great start. It wasn’t the first time that its musicians had been in a band though. Sean Friesen (vocals, guitar) previously played with the Asexuals and Alfred Mueller (vocals, bass) and Dave Conrad (drums) have also played in various other acts before forming La Motta. ‘Love California’ is the band's second release. The 5 track EP opens with ‘I Love California’. Just before the band formed the band moved to California and it’s obivous from the song that they really like it there. Fiery guitars light up the song right from the beginning. “I think I love you California” sings Sean with the highest conviction. The following ‘Bondage’ and Opposites’ are a little bit calmer , and the backing vocals, provided by Jo Alexis, help to smooth out the sound of the EP. ‘Safety Operation’ meanwhile builds upon the lively spirit of La Motta's other music. Sean’s voice sits perfectly inside its raw sound. The EP closes with instrumental track ‘Rad, Rad World’, which gives you the impression you are rolling down a hit really fast but with no desire to stop. ‘Love California’ EP is music to play to lift your mood up and in fact to shoot it up high. Despite their punk roots, La Motta defy being filed in any particular kind of category.. The clear and enthusiastic melody of their songs distinguish them from any other band.
