intro
"Slightly creepy, very Australian, melange of underwater atmospherics and brain-scrambling time signatures" from Sydney based trio.
Jazz! Nice, etc. God, I hate jazz. What is kind of cool though is faux-jazz, which can take in anything from novelty-pop Cure to sheet music-shredding Squarepusher, to The Necks; who, incidentally, are probably in a closer vein to a jazz-stained Main, or a more random Salaryman, than any Miles wannabe. The Necks also happen to observe the golden rule of Good Music, which states that all ‘proper’ instruments must either have big knobs and flashy lights, or sharp edges that can make you bleed. No warbly warbly clarinets here, thank you. Recorded at various points between 1996 and 1999 in Sydney and Annandale, 'Hanging Gardens' is a slightly creepy, very Australian, melange of underwater atmospherics and brain-scrambling time signatures. It consists of one hour and a half long track and it’ll scare the living crap out of you.

Slow-burning recently re-released electronica from Australian trio the Necks, which, while regarded by fans as their high-water mark, definitely proves to be something of an acquired taste |
