Örebro's softcore punk outfit Millencolin have added another album to their growing collection of excellent releases. Literally translated Örebro means Pennybridge, so hence the album name 'Pennybridge Pioneers'. Nicola (bass and vocals), Erik (guitar), Larzon (drums) and Mathias (guitar) all started off in different punk groups but eventually became known as Millencolin, which they picked as a name because of its resemblance in sound to the skateboard trick 'Melancholy'. Millencolin's latest offering has the same distinctive vocals, pleasant tunes and entertaining lyrics, as their other records, but balances this with a new found maturity that is best presented on the acoustically-driven end track 'The Ballad'. This maturity coincides also with the cartoon-style front covers that were a feature of their previous releases being replaced by a classy oil painting of the band,. It's not quite the same but it is equally effective in its own way. Millencolin are getting better, album by album. The ska-guitar has become more fast-paced and is more free flowing. 'Material Boy' takes a witty look at man's need for material possessions "I will live like a Tsar, the beggars chant won't hear it. I'll have a boat, new TV and car, And in my mouth a fat Cuban cigar." 'The Ballad' meanwhikle is about childhood bullying. On this album, Millencolin have shown that they are capable of further excellence. The whole album is never anything but inspiring, and has a sense of immortality. It will prolong your life.
