Speedbuggy provide a blend of country and punk from the outset, which, fused perfectly together, forms an alternative genre that can only be described as 'country punk'. This third album follows 'Hardcore Honky Tonk' and the limited edition 'George Owens', and is by far the most appealing of the three. The album name 'Cowboys & Aliens' surreally depicts the band's musical style. The country sound of the cowboys and the unexplored side of punk music, which is represented by the aliens, proves that there is more to a clever but somewhat strange album name than first impressions may give. Much of this album is fast paced, contrasting neatly and adding power to the few equally distinguished, but slower tracks that also appear on it.. The origins of much of the music came from an inspiring road trip. Beginning in Los Angeles, CA, the trip progressed through Mexican cities such as Ciudad Juarez. After Mexico came Texas and then finally Louisiana where the final pieces of 'Cowboys & Aliens' were experienced. 'Cowboys & Aliens' details the events that occured during the trip, such as encounters with prostitutes and nights spent in sleazy run down motels. Although these subjects may seem a little unappealing, they have been crafted excellently into a very fresh and positive sound. Speedbuggy have moved country and punk music forwards into an alternative field so that it can be enjoyed by even more people, most of whom would be hard pressed not to rate this release highly.

South of Bakersfield (2016) |
Excellent new album from Speedbuggy USA which sheds light on the wonderfully twangy and very American Bakersfield genre |
