intro
Scorching punk pop on latest album from hard-hitting Toulouse-based psychedelic/garage popsters Slift
It is quite odd how Spizz Energi never fully received the recognition they deserved. Just like them, Slift borrow the same sense of hollow and spatial rumble rock that derives from late 1970's Suicide and Alan Vega's monstrously deep and bellowing bass lines. Not shy of going on an excursion, such as on the rather exotic 'Ant Skull', Slift let themselves go free, in search of new patterns. On 'Fearless Eye' Slift seem to have to have found exactly that, adding a few flavours of glitter rock to get a perfect contemporary blend of both. Think of Spiritualized in a spur of deep concentration. Sleazy and mean and with an undeniable vigour, Slift rise above throughout. They master that peculiar type of tickling krautrock where you don't know whether it's going to blast into space or onto the autobahn. 'Reach The Fuzz And Be Well' as it reads on the back sleeve! There is, however, more to it than this. Stylish twang and challengingly driving beats combine like Spacemen 3 has got happily wedded to The Fuzztones. On the title track, a flute appears to set the definitive tone, but on 'Silent Giant' the buzzsaw fuzz guitars ride on to their big finale. Slift blend a lot of styles and their brew is rather unique. Cafe bar music destined to get one confused.

Fantastic new album from Toulouse trio Slift who have moved swiftly forwards from punk on their debut of last year to space rock on this second LP |
