intro
Chaotic but gripping combination of jazz with funk and psychedelia on second album from Bristol-based experimental group the Evil Usses
Though sometimes dizzy, tooting jazz flirts with funk and psychedelia on Evil Usses' album. Seemingly a jolly chaos. Evil Usses - Amateur Pro Wrestling (Stolen Body Records) Following in the tradition of Rip, Rig and Panic or Up Bustle & Out, the Evil Usses possibly belong to the creme-de-la-creme of avant-garde music, headed by Pickled Egg's a.P.A.t.T. and the Leaf Label's Melt Yourself Down, with Ninja Tune's Bonobo bottom league. The Bristol band's shy, subtle freeform jazz merges with moments of freaking bewilderment, but avoid impromptu moments. Evil Usses dare to be clumsy during their gripping adventures on 'Amateur Pro Wrestling'. The album has the touch of a local theatre performance where gifted musicians improvise on Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh, Well'. Yet on track number seven 'Bonus Time' they turn to gritty new wave rock and combine this with touches of gothic rock. Having lost their track maybe, the Evil Usses do stay on course for 'Gambino', but only just about. Maybe mayhem lured in theEvil Usses.
