intro
Magical second album of 80's-influenced electronica which emulates bands from Depeche Mode to New Order in tremendous style
Of all the bands that try to emulate that 80's sound there are not many that can pull it off. Its like asking a band to sound as good if not better than the Motown sound. It can't be done. Its like trying to get a complete replication of the Stax Mussel Shoals sound. Some have come close but only a very few have got there. So, when you hear stories of a band that sound so very 80's I become very sceptical. But sceptical no more, I tell thee! Oh no! Because here I have something so close you might be in danger of thinking you've just stepped out of a De Lorean with a tall and old long-haired dude and a young, rather excitable apprentice. A Projection are an indie/post-punk band from Stockholm. With dark textures of effect-driven guitars, lush synthesizers, and heartfelt, introspective lyrics, their music has frequently been compared to that of Interpol, New Order, the Cure, and the Chameleons UK. But it doesn't stop there, Can you remember Classix Nouveau? All the drama of that band is there but equally the morbid lyrical content of Ian Curtis, and the attitude of Depeche Mode flanked with the intensity of Editors. Formed in 2013, A Projection quickly became an underground sensation with their powerful and atmospheric live performance and dense, sinister sound. The band quickly found themselves signed to the Hamburg-based label Tapete Records. Their debut album 'Exit' was recorded in their hometown and released on Tapete in April 2015. Recorded by Niklas Berglöf at Redmount Studios, again in Stockholm, their new second album 'Framework' was mixed by the award-winning mix engineer Magnus Lindberg and is a deep, dark labyrinth of 80's post-punk, energetic indie rock, and alternative electronics driven by a need to portray a real sense of restlessness and isolation in the metropolis. The strange metamorphosis of Isak Eriksson's voice is something to behold, one minute soft and mysterious but the next totally abrasive. Sometimes there are flashes in it of light and murky darkness and sometimes outrageous joy and morose despair. Other integral cogs in this finely-tuned machine are Amos Pagin (electric guitar), Mattias Ruejas Jonson (bass), Linus Högstadius (synthesizers) and Jesper Lönn (drums). The album appears in a plain black sleeve with classic white markings. I would have expected nothing else and make no mistake folks, as a unit this is even more 80's than the 80's itself. Ridiculously marvellous!
