intro
Contentious second EP from West County-raised and now London-based singer-songwriter and folk artist, Jeremy Tuplin
West County-raised and now London-based singer-songwriter and folk artist Jeremy Tuplin is what might be defined as an acquired taste. His voice is distinctive but unusual, slow-paced. thick-set and treacle-like with a nasal twang. For some what Tuplin is offering might be refreshingly unique and different, for others with his stretched-out vowels it will be forced and contrived. If one is able to get beyond this, Tuplin certainly knows how to pace a song. The music on the five songs on 'Open Letters', which is his second EP, is beautifully-structured. None of the songs last less than four minutes, and Tuplin makes every note, every instrument - his chiming, insistent acoustic guitar throughout; the hum of a keyboard and echoing drums on the hymnal 'Time's Essence'; gorgeous female backing vocals on 'Changes in the Sea' - count for a lot. A flawed offering then perhaps but one not without potnential.
