intro
Enigmatic and dramatic latest album from pioneering Dusseldorf-based electronic band, Kreidler
Misspelt to serve your convenience, Cry-dler, not Cree-dler, are one of the pioneers of krautronica. Kreidler's latest LP on Hamburg's Bureau B label marks a change for them as the keyboard is a key instrument. 'ABC' comprises six busy Eurochannel tracks; each with baffling unique sounds. 'Ceramic' - the most orchestral of all - portrays Kreidler at their most prolific. These mere 6 tracks capture, in around 45 minutes, and champion the sound which in future the Bureau B label may be recognised for. Their banging krautronica explores new waves but at the same begs to be compared To Rococo Rot's 'ABC123' album, admittingly in its similar exploration of computer-induced new music. The most striking example of this, however, is 'Modul', a track too Eurotunnel for its own good. Techno music seems to have found its Graceland on the desks of Bureau B. 'Alphabet' continues in similar vein. It leads into the jiggy, bouncing 'Destino' and before one would notice it the subway train in the meantime has already moved on. 'ABC' tiptoes on trodden paths of carefully cut out routes but leads to higher ground. Enigmatic and anthemic, the kitsch and grace of the mellowtronics in the opening track of 'Nino' sets the tone for this moody album. Ultimately, 'ABC' evolves with fine mystery; its six cutting edge tracks have the hefty groove of, say, The Fall but in the absence of a lead figure like Mark E. Smith dwell in wordless drama.
