intro
Instantly catchy yet unpredictable limited edition vinyl only single from Belle Ghoul, whose members include Electric Six member Christopher Tait and Patti Smith's daughter Jesse Smith
A group formed by Christopher Tait, one of the most active and versatile members of Electric Six, and Jesse Smith, who also happens to be the daughter of Patti Smith, was never going to be predictable. Belle Ghoul have dived into this treasure trove of musical culture and surfaced with 'Saturday Knife Fight'. The limited edition 7” opens with a suitably ominous air. There are echoes of Edwyn Collins in Tait's vocals and the deceptively lazy guitar. The single somehow sounds stripped back and complex. There is a ghostly choir somewhere in the background, a lone voice shouting and the northern soul upbeat tempo is beautifully juxtaposed with lyrics about knife fights. There is nothing ragged around the edges about Belle Ghoul. They manage to balance tight production with integrity and the result is instantly catchy.
