Competent but also uninspiring debut single from London-based trio, Mexico Indigo
'The Trumpet’ is the first track taken from Mexico Indigo album ‘Single Blind Design'. The band, who hail from London, are Stuart Camara (lead vocals/lead guitar), Matt Kingston (backing vocals/bass guitar) and Phil Kingston (drums/percussion). They describe their influences as the Beatles, the Sex Pistols, the Libertines, Nirvana and Oasis and their sound as a mix of the melody of the Beatles combined with the thrashiness of the Sex Pistols and is best described as ‘Thrashy Melodica’. It is a new one on me too. So, I am quite surprised to find 'The Trumpet' opens with a sound more akin to country, all guitar twangs and no, well, trumpets. Okay, now we have got that out of the way. What we have is a perfectly enjoyable song and, yes, melodious it is, but there is no thrashing in sight. I can't help but be disappointed. That aside, 'The Trumpet' is catchy and competent, and I know that sounds like damning with faint praise.
