intro
Exuberant pub rock on multicultural-influenced new album from Madrid-based group, Ginferno
Freefunk combo Ginferno perform multicultural pub rock and add touches of jazz and psychedelia for good measure. Ginferno's brass section might be a one-man effort, yet with true depth of style one can't help but think that there was an entire brass section marching down the streets at the time of recording. Ginferno's muddy mental mess works quite well. Mood swifts travel internationally; be they Irish, Balkan, Wild West Californian or what not. Ginferno have capable hands to perform all such styles. As ghostriders in the storm, Ginferno remain très Gilles Petersen, but are perhaps a little too wild if one considers his tender age. A loose Vaudeville act perhaps, Ginferno are a combo hard to capture in a few words. Ginferno's brash and harsh brand of jazzy pub rock is, however, not alienating. Quite the opposite, their surfing twang makes one feel quite merry in a 1970's West-African way on 'Bonsoir Agadez', before 'Sahara Billy' returns to breezy freeform surf twang and brassy zaniness. With 'Erta Ale' you don't need to fancy a brew. The album is a very fancy brew in its own right. Be warned; repeated listening to 'Erta Ale' makes you insatiably thirsty.
