Malcolm Holcombe - Down the River
Label: Gypsy Eyes
Format: CD

intro

Fantastic Americana on ninth album from North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Malcolm Holcombe, which includes guest appearances from Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris

Malcolm Holcombe and his host of friends, including Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris, produce a raw kind of Americana. Holcombe's rough voice gives a twist and provides a contrast to all the jangling. 'Down the River' offers nice variations though on very familiar music and it's the conviction of the performances that stand out. The cinematographic touch, from both the words and the Americana, works well on some of the slower tracks like 'The Door'. Americana aficionados, check out Malcolm Holcombe.
