Step-Panther - Paranoia
Label: Too Pure
Format: 7"

intro

Unpolished, but impressive 7” vinyl single from Sydney-based punk trio, Step-Panther

Australia’s Step-Panther are a no-nonsense, noisy bunch who make a racket akin to Black Flag, and I like it. There is nothing shiny or over produced about either of the tunes on show here. It echoes of sweaty rooms; big, old, slightly broken amplifiers and drums kits with bit missing and tons of punk rocks posters littered across dilapidated walls. This is a slap in the face for all the young ‘uns that think rock nowadays is all haircuts and clothing sponsorship. ‘Paranoia’ alone has more personality and presence than 93% of the rubbish passed off as rock music these days. All the joys of punk rock are displayed on ‘D-Minus’. With drums and bass leading the song along , it has a brilliant minimalistic appeal to it. There is just enough, but not too much. It is most refreshing to hear a band that are keeping the punk/post punk vibe alive and doing it so well,
