intro
Courageous combination of dubstep and introverted piano composition sung in her native language on EP from Danish musician, Heidi Mortenson
Danish! You may know Sandi Toksvig as the Dane lass who's fluent and somewhat witty in English. She ridicules her mother tongue and indeed Danish is an exceptionally difficult language to speak. Yet on this dubstoptronica EP, the words in Danish sound like ancient English and as a means of help English lyric translations are printed on the sleeve. Those foreign touches enlighten this boat trip. Even more confusing, 'Underkast' shows it is possible to create a frolicking French atmosphere using seemingly impossible words. It's just a matter of pronouncing words like "Underkast overgrab ... Sàrbar strafbar ... Igen, igen". When Heidi Mortenson sings those words as urban soul, it's music to the ears. The courage to sing in Danish is matched by the progression from groovy dubstep bubbles to introvert piano composition. In the course of well under half an hour, the 'Mørk' EP will tickle your mind for hours. On all five tracks the music is defragmented. Stripping away the electronic beats and shutting up to ultimately play the piano, this EP is the Steinway to Heaven when you want a little extra with your urban dance music.
