intro
Our Website of the Month is 'She Blogs About Music', the personal website of music professional and fan Alethia Austin who uses her her blog to highlight some of her favourite acts
This month's Website of the Month is Alethia Austin's "sweet pages of audio bliss" - 'She Blogs About Music' http://sheblogsaboutmusic.wordpress.com. 'She Blogs About Music' is just the sort of blog I love. Alethia really loves the music she features. That affection comes across loud and clear in every post and the range is so eclectic there is always something that will appeal. I chatted to eternal optimist Alethia to get her opinions on the world of music blogging. FIONA: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? ALETHIA: I've got a bad reputation for seeing things on the positive side nearly all of the time. I'm a ten year plus music industry professional whose adventures just brought me to Amsterdam for the next year. Constantly searching out little known bands, and helping the indies with their marketing approach into the music business side of things. FIONA: What inspired you to set up 'She Blogs About Music'? ALETHIA: As a music supervisor, I'm sent mountains of music from labels, publishers, managers, band, etc. The "hunt" for finding new music can grow lazy when you're handed any and all new music. I set up the blog as a way of forcing myself to still seek, search and research new indie artists. It keeps me on the prowl. FIONA: Do you only feature music you like? ALETHIA: I do only feature music I like. I've placed plenty of music that I didn't agree with, so the blog is a place where I can selfishly cater to my musical tastes. FIONA: How do you interact with your readers? ALETHIA: I get hundreds of emails and tweets per month of people reaching out with new music from people who have stumbled upon my blog. Even if the email is terrible (read: "I sound like a cross between Led Zeppelin, Lady Gaga and Bob Dylan"), I try to respond. Sometimes there's a jewel in those emails, I've made some great connections from my readers and I always appreciate them taking the time to share new music. I love people who hustle, so I respect anyone who finds me, does their homework and sends me stuff. FIONA: What is the best thing about blogging? ALETHIA: The freedom of expression. And, automatic send-to-twitter option. FIONA: And the worst? ALETHIA: Like I said, I like to see things on the sunny side... FIONA: Why should Pennyblack readers come and check out 'She Blogs About Music'? ALETHIA: Pennyblack readers should spend hours on Pennyblack and then they should check out 'She Blogs' to see why Pennyblack featured us. FIONA: Thank you.
