intro

Excellent reissue of only single by out-of-time late 80's synth band and Creation signing, Counterfeit

Counterfeit were on Creation Records and this is a reissue of what was their only record. The first two tracks were released on 12" vinyl and were recorded in Dagenham on the 10th November 1989. I saw the band at the London Falcon at about that time in what was maybe their only ever show. The A side, 'The Good Samaritan', sounds like a very poppy, early Depeche Mode with its big time keyboards and pleasant vocals. They could have been huge if they had been a few years earlier, but by then this was old news. It was still a decent enough song though. 'Four Years', its B side, is again Depeche Mode and Yazoo-flavoured. It was again sadly too late for the early synth crowd and too early for the baggy scene just around the corner. 'Cliches and Lies', a bonus track, has never released before and was recorded on the 18th December. It again is Mode-flavoured, and also has a touch of the Inspiral Carpets in their early pre-baggy era.

Track Listing:-
1 The Good Samaritan
2 Four Years
3 Cliches & Lies
