intro
Predictable and tiresome soul/funk on fourth album from Niobe, the moniker for German singer-songwriter Yvonne Cornelius
Niobe must by now be one of the Tomlab label's longest standing and recording stalwarts. 'The Cclose Calll' is Niobe's fourth album since her debut ten years ago for the Cologne- based record label and having remained there ever since Niobe has kept very much in the same style since the the turn of the millenium. Born Yvonne Cornelius, Niobe has remained in hiding under her moniker, hinting it is to be supposed at her aspiration for recognition in Japan. Since this has never happened, Niobe has crafted her latest album around yet more of the same. On 'The Cclose Calll' - echoes resounding that jiggy itch of 'Walk The Walk' - Niobe appears to want to be one George Clinton. An unspecified funkiness may describe this, yet behold since there's another vague notion ahead; on 'Does He Gallop O Walk?' we hear hoofs tapping cashier machines as per usual. In general though, 'The Cclose Calll' merges her longing to be a new Gil Scott-Heron and to the objective ear this is pretty tiresome.
