intro
Evocative combination of melody and tribal rhythms on ironic debut album from Frankfurt-based band, Like A Stuntman
Probably classically trained, or at least classically inclined, Like A Stuntman integrates together bits and pieces of compositional music. Their music is graced with an animalistic and tribal urgence similarly found in the music of Black Dice, Like A Stuntman play a mish mash hysteria of electronic beats and percussive zany art-rock. 'Hell No' follows such a path where the music develops along what seem like accidently recorded click and cuts. Electronic castagnets, if you like... .'Sport', by definition, takes electronic dubbiness up the ladder as it evolves into a whirling set of disorientating sound effects. Like A Stuntman round matters with what they are driven by in the first place; splashing beats and electronic dance music. 'YOY' is an evocative combination of melody and tribal rhythms. In spite of thir name, Like A Stuntman are like Animal Collective without the poseur attitude. In a sense 'YOY' is the perfectly ironic pastiche. Even the band name has to be seen as irony.
