intro

Strong third single from rising Manchester band City Reign, which while perhaps lacking the appeal of their first two releases, can still be seen as a minor triumph

Keen to build on the buzz surrounding their first two singles, including a positive feature in Manchester's influencial 'City Life' paper, City Reign unveil a third single in the shape of 'Daybreak'. Whilst it is certainly a decent slice of indie rock with their trademark nods to the likes of Puressence (musically) and Little Man Tate (vocally) it does lack some of the appeal of their earlier releases. When the bar is set so high so soon, it is hardly a crime, however, to fall just short and by most standards 'Daybreak' would be seen as a minor triumph. Thankfully it's business as usual on excellent B-side, 'The Line', which is the kind a slow burner that screams live set closer and anthem almost simultaneously. Singer Chris Bull's voice sounds like Bob Kemp from long forgotten Manchester band Ambitious Beggars and hints of the early Cure are also evident.
