intro
Clever and innovative funk on second album from Twisted Tongue, the project of production duo Dave Jay and Mark Dalton, which seems destined to be one of the records of the forthcoming summer
This release on the Acid Jazz label heralds a definite return of the cool vibes. This is a summer album. Be it festival or well educated barbecue this mix of tracks has something for any funky person (am I being politically correct enough with that statement?). Vocals from Johanna Lee are crisp and hypnotic as she lends her skills to four of the tracks. We also get hit by an old school electro thread running through a section of the album. I can't work out if it is Carleen Anderson or the Fugees that influence parts of the release, but I can vouch for the excellent quality both with the direction and delivery. There does seem to be a little Gnarls Barkley here mixed with maybe a 4 Hero aspect and each track is definitely individual enough to drop the needle anywhere and get a nice surprise. I have played this album many times. On each nw listen my admiration builds more from its main creators Dave Jay and Mark Dalton – obviously they have had contributions from others in the making of the album to give it a decent diversity but I am not going to spoil it by giving you a boring list of names you may or may not have heard of. Needless to say each second of airtime is used wisely. If you like clever funky music this is a must for the forthcoming summer. This is money well spent.
