Balladeering in an absurdly appealing way, this Scottish duo consists of Martin Donnelly, whose clear, slightly plaintive, drink-ridden and highly emotive voice will bring fame and fortune, and Andrew Bush who plays several instruments. The Savings and Loan perform outright 'Americana'. It´s their claim that they have recorded dozens of songs, but this debut album is the first proof of this. 'Today I Need Light' notwithstandingly offers a heap of intriguing little wonders; mysterious songs about misery. Their debut is a matured album of glorious folkpop music. Memorable, touching and calm.
