intro
Latest vinyl only single from Southend garage rockers the Horrors, which combines a post-punk and pop sound
The Horrors now have a new home at XL, which is part of the 4AD group. They also have a new look, which is not so scary. This year has seen the release of two new singles which are only on 7 inch as well as their second album ‘Primary Colours’. ‘Whole New Way’, the second of these, is a new song which doesn’t appear on the new album. At one level it has a post-punk sound, its bass line recalling early PIL but Faris Badwan’s vocals sound very poppy and a little like Richard Butler from the Psychedelic Furs. The keyboards meanwhile are reminiscent of the early B-52's. Its B side is the title track from ‘Primary Colours’. Faris’ vocals again has the husky and raw sound of the Psychedelic Furs, while the music is influenced by different elements of the 70s and especially new wave and krautrock.
