intro
Enjoyable but unnecessary folk rock on fourth album from the Big Eyes Family Players, the project of Sheffield-based musician James Green
The recordings of James Green as 'Big Eyes' only recently attracted my interest after he teamed up with James Yorkston to do a greatest hits album of Irish and British folk tunes on the Domino label. I'm afraid that 'Warm Room' is not going to change my view of him very much. As the conductor to my (own imaginary) orchestra I would be thrilled to have James Green on my side, but as solo artists The Big Eyes Family Players simply hold too little on offer. On 'Warm Room' there is not enough compositional talent to render a truly great effort. 'Warm Room' is far from an entirely pointless effort ever though; 'The Great Pin Dance' stands out amongst a thoroughly enjoyable set. Following at such short time and notice after 'Folk Songs', 'Warm Room' is, however, unnecessary.
