intro

Plain-sounding anthemic rock from Edinburgh would-be punks, the Vivians

No doubt Edinburgh’s five-piece the Vivians would like to think of themselves as punks and, apparently, pull all the staid clichés. On this release – part of Too Pure’s Single Club – though the band sound like the latest batch of indie hopefuls who think they’re alternative just because they wear jeans and play guitars. If the press release is to be believed the band sound like the New York Dolls and Richard Hell but on this outing The Vivians are a long way off from penning anything that could even touch the coat tails of 'Blank Generation'. 'Just Two Girls' is just plain, anthemic stadium rock with a sing-a-long chorus ideal for those summer festivals. In effect the Vivians are Scotland’s answer to the Killers. The B-side 'Glass Houses' though shows more promise. Nothing worth writing home about just yet but the band, if they drop all the bombastic puff, might have something of interest. Give them a year, say, to mature and see what comes out then.
