intro
Excellent indie pop on new EP from debuting Cambridge-based band, the Puncture Repair Kit, who draw musical comparisons with Belle and Sebastian, the Delgados and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Paul Heaton (of Housemartins and Beautiful South fame) has described the Puncture Repair Kit as “the best thing to come out of Cambridge since homosexuality”, which is not only a great thing to say, but also quite true. Although, to be honest, I can’t think of a lot of things to come out of Cambridge at all, so how true that is perhaps be left unsaid. Anyway, the Puncture Repair Kit is a six piece from the aforementioned city, and 'The Sinking of the PRK' is their debut EP, released on their very own, self-titled label. The bands MySpace site mentions influences like Belle and Sebastian, the Delgados and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, and I couldn’t have said it better myself. I think they sound quite a bit like the two latter in partuclar, and towards the end of the third and last song on the EP, 'The Death Waltz', they end up sounding like Bearsuit for a while. All in all, this is a very good EP, and I am really looking forward to the supposed forthcoming album!
