intro
Loud and furious debut album from thunderous instrumental French group Passe Montagne, which despite a brief running time of just over twenty minutes is packed with ideas
Instrumental, loud and furious, on 'Oh, My Satan' Passe Montagne crashes in on a thunderstrom which lasts just over 20 minutes. There is never a dull moment! Aggressively puzzled math rock meets with the Beefheart mould of snare noises. This this little blaster appears even more exotic when you know Passe Montagne - which means "mountain pass" - are French and based in Paris. This excursion into brevity stands out amongst the lengthy releases that slow thinking Americans and British musicians have become known, or dreaded, for. Their odd poppy sound merges with cowbells to try to construct a glitter rock melody line on 'La Loi C'est La Loi'. 'Traga Maluca' flirts with blues music but then erupts in a frantic burst of energy, again taking up just over a minute. File in between Relapse and Pickled Egg Records. Twelve tracks in twenty-one minutes comprise a little monster of a release.
