intro
Confident and optimistic-sounding second album from gorgeous-voiced New York-based singer-songwriter Essie Jain, which has been re-released in an European edition with two extra tracks
With Christmas nearing, Essie Jain's second album gets a second chance. Two tracks have been added to this special edition on the Leaf Label label. Released in the USA earlier this year when her debut 'We Made This Ourselves' became available for the first time in Europe, 'The Inbetween' presents Essie Jain in a much more confident mood, and with a few and fine musicians assisting. Crystal clear, direct and yet tender, Essie Jain sings her stories of hope and understanding as she plays the piano. The original ten songs have a few surprises. 'The Rights' flirts with cabaret and captures Essie Jain in an upbeat fashion. The bonus tracks are put at the end which slightly spoils the build-up to 'Goodbye' initially. All is forgiven as 'I Remember It Just Like This' is a worthy close to this new edition. She once again finds a still moment and she tantalizes us with her gorgeous voice.

We Made This Ourselves (2008) |
Bittersweet, but excellent debut album which reflects on relationships having gone badly wrong from London-raised, but now New York-based solo artist, Essie Jain |
