intro
Negative third solo album from Swedish singer-songwriter and former front man Pelle Carlberg, who, while holding on to his Belle and Sebestian influences, has become increasingly and pointlessly abrasive
In the early 21st century, Pelle Carlberg used to be the singer in band called Edson, a band that was a carbon copy of Belle and Sebastian, more or less, but they had some good songs nevertheless. A couple of years ago, Pelle decided to go solo, and now his third album as a solo artist is here. On his last album, 'In a Nutshell', he seemed to be annoyed with a lot of things in his world, and wrote some songs that was just meant to be provocative. Among them were 'Go to Hell, Miss Rydell' (about a music critic called Malena Rydell, who wrote a negative review of one of his albums) and 'Musikbyrån Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack' (about a music show on Swedish television). And on this new album, 'The Lilac Time', he's at it again. This time, he hates animal lovers among other things. I just can't understand why he's doing this. Back in the days of Edson, he wrote lyrics about holding hands with the one he loved and renting a movie, which might sound a bit too cute and twee, but I definitely prefer it to this new lyrical style. And the music ? Well, it's still like Belle and Sebastian to me...
