intro
Catchy second album from acclaimed American indie pop group the Spinto Band, which lives up to the expectations generated by their first album
The Spinto Band's second album, 'Moonwink', lives up to the hype created by their 2006 debut, 'Nice and Nicely Done'. The album is a mix of jangly guitars, pop keyboards and jaunty lyrics. The pace bounces along with catchy lyrics and riffs around every corner. Vocalists Nick Krill and Thomas Hughes have a great dynamic. Both voices bend and croon with emotion while keeping a light playful feel to the band's songs. Stand out tracks include 'Needlepoint', a fast paced keyboard based tune with great electronic beats. Sam Hughes delivers simple keyboard parts but these add a lot to the band's sound. Opening track Later 'On' has a great feel to it with guitarists Jon Eaton and Joey Hobson playing a sweep of notes and drummer Jeffrey Hobson providing a pounding backdrop. 'Pumpkins and Paisley' has a real Beatles feel about it and is one of the albums most fun tracks. 'Ain't This The Truth' follows, and again has a 60's feel to it. The vocals are reminiscent of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and bring an almost uneven quality to the song, but one that works well. The band have come up with a great follow up album that wo'nt disappoint fans. And for anyone who hasn't heard much from the band before, it would be a good introduction.
