intro
Offbeat second album from the deranged and drunken Black Carrot, who fall completely into a unnique class of their own
While most bands and their music can be classified to a particular genre, some defy attempts at such classification. One such example of this refusal to be defined to a particular genre, are Brixton’s Alabama 3; another is the deranged and drunken Black Carrot, from Market Harborough. Broadly defined as folk, there is as an almost psychotic undertone of rock to Black Carrot’s music, along with a liberal sprinkling of jazz, beat poetry, krautrock, and beer. While some bands use oddness as a gimmick, Black Carrot are just odd. Having said that, their oddness is used quite effectively. For whether you like them or not, you cannot help but listen to Black Carrot, as you are never quite sure what is going to happen next, thus you can not help but listen to their music (if only to hear what will happen next). Overall, this is a unique album, and one I am confident you will not have heard its like before. But whether you like this album is debatable. There is no in between with these gentlemen, and you will either simply like them or not.
