intro

Fine third album from consistently diverse and experimental dance duo, Ratatat

Methods unchanged, Ratatat demonstrate on their third album how far this duo's very own inside duel has developed. Evidently the beatbox has been lost against new gadgets like the electronic mouth-harp, but this has only meant their instrumentation has slightly changed. Ratatat, for example, draw in bhangra music characteristics on the opening tracks but resist contempt. and with their wit and small genius build a new rhythm of their own. And as this is followed by 'Flynn' where a fake caribbean rhythm starts drifting along imaginary shores, listening to music could hardly be any better. Ratatat remains a one-trick pony who have 'accidently' come to know of dozens of different dances. Ratatat use a single pattern for their musical escapades into the exotic. The tracks on their 'LP3' all work from a same starting point onto a very same-y finish. Yet with lots of varying treatments, Ratatat's waltzes always lead to an exciting variation on one single theme. In the end, there will always be a loud electric guitar shutting up any programmed sound effects as it fades away. It's muzak but of the most excellent order.
