intro
Splendid debut album from Glaswegian four piece Errors who marry post-rock and upbeat electronica with suprisingly effective results
On Errors debut EP, the brilliantly named ‘How Clean is Your Acid House?’ the Glasgow four piece married post-rock and upbeat electronica surprisingly well, creating a style of post-rock which people can actually dance to. As opener ‘Dance Music’ kicks in, it is clear that ‘It’s Not Something but it is Like Whatever’ builds up into an upbeat and danceable rhythm with prominent post-rock guitar work. ‘National Prism’ follows on with more of the same. The post rock influence is stronger on this album, but it is post rock that is continuously driving forward, with a steady pace to most songs. ‘Salut! France’ tips its hat to French techno and is the first track on the album to be dominated by synths. The electronics are toned down for ‘Still Game’, which features interlocking guitar and glockenspiel melody lines. ‘Toes’ treads similar water as Battles with its jittery guitar sounds, while ‘Crystal Maze’ takes a more ambient direction. ‘Cutlery Draw’ features some spoken word vocals about a party gone wrong, while the seven-minute ‘Pump’ raids Ed Banger records and New Order’s to create a slice of modern, hard electro music.
