intro
Surprisingly soft-edged, but nevertheless effective new EP from American hardcore act, the Walls of Jericho
The Walls of Jericho have seemingly taken a more surprising and different direction for their new EP which is entitled 'Redemption'. Known more for their hardcore leanings, they have taken a more creative approach employing a softer edge. Fans of the band will be pleasantly surprised that singer Candice Kucsulain, normally known for screaming can actually sing too. Opener 'Ember Drive' is easy on the ears employing backing strings to great effect, while duet 'Addicted', featuring Slipknot's Corey Taylor sounds more like an offshoot from his ‘other’ outfit Stone Sour. The EP isn’t without its fault however as it includes a woeful cover of the Animals classic 'House of the Rising Sun', which is kind of like painting a moustache and glasses on the Mona Lisa to improve it. All in all this is a brave and listenable collection and sure to delight even the most hardened of fans. Please, however, though just leave the classics to the masters.
