intro
At the Ruby Lounge in Manchester, Aaron Brown sees up-beat Reading pop-punk act Pete and the Pirates help an appreciative audience shake off the last of the winter blues with their enthusiastic performance
For anyone coming in from the cold, wet and windy weather of Manchester, they would be forgiven if they thought it was summertime already. Reading’s pop-punk troupe Pete and the Pirates were in town to help us forget the crappy weather, credit crunch economy and inject some much needed happiness into our lives. Support Artefacts for Space Travel started off well with their psychedelic tinged indie but seemed to fizzle out towards the end. While label mates Let Wrestle, looking a bit nervous, did the opposite and got better towards the ends of their set. Supporting their new album, the excellent 'Little Death', the chirpy lads had the appreciative Manchester crowd shaking off the winter blues. Clearly enjoying playing, the Pirates are a delight to watch. Recent singles, 'She Doesn’t Belong To Me' and the infectious 'Mr Understanding' are sure to be festival crowd pleasers this summer. Judging by the content Manchester audience, the summertime is here already, 'Little Death' is out now on Stolen Recordings.
