intro
Enjoyable multi-formatted first solo single from former Suede star, Brett Anderson
‘Love is Dead’ is a perfect introduction to the solo work of the former singer of Suede. It is very much a departure for him. It appears in three versions, two on CDS and one on vinyl. ‘Clowns’, the B side of the first CDS, is as elegant as classic Lee Hazlewood, very 1970’s with a lovely arrangement, which may upset the Suede crowd, as you can’t sway your arms to it. On the second CDS ‘We Can Be Anyone’ is a moody number with a commercial-sounding swagger, while the extra track ‘Mother Night’ is a stripped down track about a disco bunny, and far too strong to have been wasted as a mere B side. It should definitely have been on the album. The 7 inch B side is ‘Elegant’ which is pleasant enough, but not up to the rest of this material. It is a song that no one will get crazy about.
