intro
Instantly accessible and foot-tapping latest album from talented bluegrass songsmith Korby Lenker
Outrageously talented bluegrass songsmith Korby Lenker has moved towards something more electric with this latest album. Before the chants of “Judas” start to ring out you should note that this is actually another great album. It is so instantly accessible it wouldn’t seem out of place on commercial radio, even – whisper it – slightly AOR radio. This is a cut and polish for a gem that was previously straight out of the ground. On some tracks this works wonderfully. ‘Bored’ and ‘Wandered Out Too Far’ are examples of what Lenker does so well, tugging at heart strings with a captivating melody and his plaintive vocals. At other points the polishing seems to have worn away some of the magic. His previous release of ‘Papercuts’ was a delicate beauty with gorgeous backing vocals from Jolie Holland. A new version on this album has been tarted up and placed in the middle of a glittering production arrangement. It is still a great song, but now it is just another great song, rather than something unique. Still at the day’s end, if you’re not taping both feet to this album you probably only have one leg.
