intro
Intelligent dancefloor music from electronica artist Chris Clark, who now working under the moniker of Clark, has put out this latest album on Warp Records
No longer using his full first name, Chris(topher) Clark seems more than slightly intent on baring all of his true self and, whilst this might not be perhaps a good idea, 'Body Riddle' has turned out to perhaps be his finest move yet. Although as a tool only, Clark has chosen for composition and for a use of rhythm that of the warped type of beats (sic) Warp Records has become famous for. Hence with the running order of the 'Body Riddle' double LP set ànd that of the compact disc being exactly the same, Clark's album with blunt honesty aims for the intelligent dancefloor massive using one sole weapon. Its twisted beats pound on relentlessly over complex yet fluently performed patterns built from breaks and beats. As if using a metronome, Clark's tunes come on and off. The closing track 'The Autumnal Crush' serves as the best showcase. Clark takes the listener through soundscapes of well, er, riddled rhythms and freaky sound effects. 'Body Riddle' is awash with freshly conducted polyrhythmic excursions. Truly the steamy affair you may expect with an album title like that.
