intro
Splendid second album from Songs of Green Pheasant, the solo project of Sheffield-based artist/teacher Duncan Sumpner, which is reminiscent in its wintry beauty of Sigur Ros
Songs of Green Pheasant is the solo project of Sheffield-based artist/teacher Duncan Sumpner. He was signed to Fat Cat on the basis of an album-length demo that he sent to them, and they were so impressed they released it as his eponymous debut. It’s easy to see why they were so impressed; this second album doesn’t sound like a solo record, it sounds full and the songs have real depth. While it could be classed as folk, I think it has more in common, musically, with something like Sigur Ros – it paints a picture in your mind of beautiful winter landscapes and carries you away from whatever work you should be doing while you listen to it. The seven songs on 'Aerial Days' are all wonderful to listen to, a really enjoyable musical experience. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with a cover of 'Dear Prudence', especially when as in this case it’s done so well. If you’re looking to make the winter seem sweeter, buy this album.
