intro
Late 70's influenced new wave guitar pop from up-and-coming Brit pop act And What Will Be Left of Them ? which sounds like a long lost Blondie song
With its funky rhythms, new wave guitars, and understated girl vocals, And What Will Be Left of Them’s ‘Wet Week in July’ starts like a long lost Blondie song; edgy, irresistibly danceable pop at its best. Like previous And What Will Be Left of Them releases, there is an inherent Englishness to the songs on here, with a sound that generally straddles late 70s guitar pop and modern British underground indie. The two live tracks on the record are also great – the driving bass-line and catchy chants of ‘Calling All Cars’ recalling the rockiest post-punk bands of the early 80s and the jaunty keyboard-led pop of ‘Jesus’ gives off the same feel-good vibe as the Pipettes.
