intro

Earthy and lawless-sounding debut album from rough-edged Newcastle Trio, the Unit Ama

The Unit Ama are a Newcastle trio sporting vocals, a guitar, bass and drum kit. They have gained notoriety for their live performances and even on record there is a live, raw feeling to their music. The prologue to their self titled debut sounds like an unrehearsed jamming session, but this is by no means a bad thing and the gritty recording of the album adds to the effects of heavy distorted bass and hollow vocals. ‘How The Mind Works’ is a strong instrumental with a pulsing beat and a capturing guitar riff, which sets the scene for an improvised sound. The album paints a barren landscape as it’s setting but seems more than comfortable with the space this leaves for an earthy and lawless sound. The Unit Ama seem to have been aiming for an album that did their live shows justice and that’s exactly what they have achieved.
