intro
Thunderous fourth album from long-serving stoner rock act Dozer
Dozer is one of many stoner rock bands orphaned by the demise of Man’s Ruin. Since then the heavy quartet has kept itself busy roaming outer space (or at least have toured Germany), releasing a pair of albums on the Molten Universe imprint, worshipping at the altar of Metallica and Black Sabbath and dabbling in side projects such as Greenleaf. Greenleaf’s 'Secret Alphabets' was released on Small Stone last year, and it was only a matter of time before Dozer, which now boasts three Greenleafers in its membership, would also find a home on the rock-friendly Detroit label’s roster. Fredrik Nordin’s melodic vocals and the bands riffs invoke other space/stoner rock outfits like Monster Magnet, and while the band lacks the necessary individuality to lift it to the top of the pack along with groups like Nebula and Fu Manchu, when they’re on, they’re on. Thye standout track is 'Until Man Exists No More' Reverberating metallic shrieks are quickly buried under a rolling storm of thunderous riffs that would do High on Fire proud before the band pulls back to give Nordin’s vocals some room. Troy Sanders of Mastodon adds some singing – okay, growling - that give the song some vital intensity.
