intro
Keyboard-heavy indie rock with a heavy Hefner influence from British alternative rockers the Forest Giants
Burgeoning label Cherryade Records’ third release is by the Forest Giants. The single, ‘Planes Fly Overhead’, is a keyboard-heavy indie-rock with a heavy Hefner influence. It’s a real foot-tapping tune which I can imagine would do very well on radio stations like XFM or BBC's 6-Music. The first B side, ‘Pick Up the Pieces’, is a bit more Fall-esque, and has the discordant keys of 60's bands like the Doors. It’s short and sweet, and really seems to act as a bit of a filler between the A side and last track ‘Gone Away’. This closing track is a gentle piece of Brit-pop style indie. It’s got a really chilled out feel to it, although at points the band really go for it with their instruments, the guitars thrashing and the drums really getting a pounding. All in all a very satisfying listen. Cherryade Records succeed once again with another brilliant release which shows off their wonderful taste in British alternative music. Roll on the Forest Giants album.
