intro
Well written, but slightly lacklustre new single from Helen Boulding, who, as well as being a recording artistt in her own right, has also co-written songs for Annie Lennox, Shakespear's Sister and Natalie Imbruglia
Helen Boulding has worked with well-respected musicians, co-writing songs for Annie Lennox, Shakespear's Sister and Natalie Imbruglia. She releases her single ‘I Don’t Know What I Want’ as she begins a UK tour supporting Glenn Tilbrook from ‘Squeeze.’ 'I Don't Know What I Want, but I Know What I Need' is your average pop song. Boulding sounds a lot like Natalie Imbruglia, with a slightly Americanised sound, and the song is well written but doesn’t really offer anything new. Obviously a talented singer, Boulding has been played on BBC Radio 2. The B-side ‘Hazel Eyes’ captures her voice alongside a piano and, while this is a pretty song, at nearly six minutes long it gets a bit tiring. The single is a bit too commercial for my liking but Boulding can sing and I am sure she will do well on a live tour. She has a couple of dates lined up with Fame Academy winner Alex Parks and fans of the ‘pop-idol’ genre of shows should enjoy her singing style.
