intro
Posturing and pretentious third offering from greatly hyped Thrill Jockey signing ADULT.
Alas further proof of labels losing their senses here; Chicago's Thrill Jockey embrace of ADULT. which must be spelt like that including the dot. Whatever. Their latest album 'Gimmie Trouble'does then indeed delivers the goods. Quirky new wave that was done twenty to twenty-five years ago quickly builds its core. The shrieks and backdrop bassdrum effects offer ample proof of the 1980s. You want trouble? Have some. Now, if ADULT. had left some good ideas for tunes for this third album I wouldn't be so harsh. The theatrical - and very posy - vocals actually don't get on your nerves thàt much. The silly concept of a fake Siouxsie and fakier Bush Tetras does have its appeal. 'Gimmie Trouble', however, simply isn't crap enough to make you want to delve deeper. Track number seven 'In My Nerves', however, almost gets there with the ubiquitous Devo riff. It must have been someone from the marketing department who told ADULT dot whatever that that would be a good idea.
