intro
Delicate and fragile debut single from phenomenally-voiced Japanese-born but now California-based singer songwriter Caroline Lufkin
Born and raised in Okinawa, Japan and now based in California, Caroline Lufkin produces songs somewhere between Joanna Newsom and Khonner. Her first single is ‘Where’s My Love’, a delicate and sweet song which, while it may not have the most complex of lyrics, has a sincerity and fragility to it that totally draws you in. The backing track is compellingly stylish, the minimalism of it really complimenting the song’s simplicity. But the real pleasure in listening to this track is Caroline herself; she has one of those voices which you can feel all the way down your spine. I found that when I put this single on, I had to stop what I was doing and just sit and listen: it is so easy to get completely lost in this music. There are two B-sides on the single. The first is a remix of the A-side, which, while an enjoyable listen, left me a little disappointed, as another original track would have been much more appealing. The second B-side, ‘Time Swells’, is as beautiful and engaging as the single itself, and reinforced my belief that this is an artist to get excited about. I absolutely love this single, and can’t wait to hear more from this phenomenal voice.
